SCANDIC LERKENDAL – A FREE KICK FROM THE STADIUM

For those visiting Trondheim who would like to watch a football match, Lerkendal Stadium is where it happens, the home of Rosenborg Ballklubb. Scandic Lerkendal is located right next to the stadium and has direct access.

HOTELS CLOSE TO TRONDHEIM

If you want to stay close to Trondheim Airport in Vaernes, Scandic Hell is located only 600 meters away, and is a perfect alternative for business travelers and families. By staying at Scandic just north of Trondheim, you can also experience staying on historic grounds at Stiklestad. The Stiklestad battle, one of the most famous battles in the Norwegian history, took place here in year 1030. If you want to learn more about this battle its easy, just visit the Stiklestad National Culture Centre, located in the same building as our hotel Scandic Stiklestad.

TRONDHEIM – A LIVELY UNIVERSITY CITY

Trondheim is a more than 1000-year-old city, and has gone from Viking city to student city, which contributes to the wide selection of activities on offer. You can easily get to Trondheim by either flying into Vaernes airport or taking the train to Trondheim central station.

NIDAROS CATHEDRAL

Trondheim is perhaps best known for the Gothic cathedral Nidaros Cathedral – an ornate Gothic masterpiece, Norway's national shrine and Northern Europe's most important pilgrimage site. Pilgrim or tourist – the 5 000 or so sculptures that adorn the cathedral will take your breath away, and still more than a thousand people make a pilgrimage to Nidaros every year. The view from the tower is also worth the 172 steps up but be aware that the hike is not recommended for people with heart problems, asthma, or claustrophobia.

ACTIVITIES IN TRONDHEIM

It’s easy to get around town by foot from all our hotels in the city center. Trondheim is a haven for sports and outdoor enthusiasts, with the large outdoor area Bymarka right outside the city center. Bymarka is great for walks and runs in the summer, and cross-country skiing in the winter.

Among the most popular outdoor activities are fishing, hiking, cycling and golf, but shopping and restaurants in the modern center Solsiden are also recommended. Here are some other tips on what to do in Trondheim:

  • Rockheim: For music enthusiasts, a visit is a must. Rockheim is the national museum of popular music, and here you can experience Norwegian popular music history from the 1950s until today. Rockheim is located at Brattørkaia in Trondheim and here you can finish with a cup of coffee on the roof terrace with perhaps the city's best view.
  • Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro): Walk or cycle across Gamle Bybro or Lykkens Portal as it is also called, and you will find Bakklandet and Solsiden. This iconic bridge is adorned with charming wooden houses and provides picturesque views of the Nidelva River.
  • Ringve Museum: Explore the Ringve Museum, which is Norway's National Museum of Music and Musical Instruments. The museum is set in a beautiful manor overlooking the Trondheimsfjord and houses an extensive collection of musical instruments from various cultures and historical periods.
  • Kristiansten Fortress: Climb up to Kristiansten Fortress to enjoy panoramic views of Trondheim. This well-preserved fortress dates to the 17th century and offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's military history. The surrounding park is also a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

With around 40 000 students, there's always something fun going on in Trondheim. The city has a wide variety of festivals, concerts, and other cultural events.
